The Kathmandu Metropolitan City Office inaugurated the first fleet of electric buses on August 18, 2025, as part of its sustainable urban transport plan. The buses will operate on the main city corridors connecting Gongabu, New Baneshwor, and Kalanki, aiming to reduce traffic congestion and air pollution.
Officials explained that the electric buses are equipped with advanced battery systems, GPS tracking, and safety features to ensure smooth operations. Citizens can now access cleaner, quieter, and more efficient public transportation compared to traditional diesel buses.
The initiative is also expected to reduce the city’s carbon footprint and align with Nepal’s commitment to environmental sustainability. Initial public response has been positive, with commuters appreciating the comfortable ride and modern facilities. Authorities plan to gradually expand the service to other districts, including Lalitpur and Bhaktapur, in the coming months.
