Government Announces New Digital Literacy Program

The Government of Nepal has officially rolled out a new digital literacy program designed to enhance the technological capacity of citizens across the country. Announced in Kathmandu on Wednesday, the initiative seeks to empower students, professionals, and rural communities with the knowledge and skills needed to thrive in a digitally connected world.

The program, backed by the Ministry of Education in collaboration with private IT firms, includes workshops, training centers, and online courses. According to officials, the first phase will focus on schools and colleges in major cities, with plans to gradually expand into rural areas.

“Digital literacy is no longer optional; it is a necessity,” said Minister for Education, highlighting that the program will create opportunities for youth and reduce the digital divide. The government is also partnering with local municipalities to ensure accessibility and inclusion, particularly for women and marginalized groups.

Experts believe the initiative will not only improve employment prospects but also support small businesses that rely increasingly on digital platforms.

The program is expected to run over the next five years, with monitoring and evaluation at each stage to measure progress.
